From a young age, Madalyn always had a passion for dogs. Her parents would say from the moment she could talk she was asking for one. Having had multiple breeds growing up, it was the Australian Shepherd that stole her heart. After looking more into the breed, Ryan was quickly on board as well. After extensive research into breeders, they got their first one together from Laura at Red Forrest Aussies who has been breeding over 30 years, is a confirmation judge, and who quickly became a mentor and friend to Madalyn as she expressed interest in preserving the breed and breeding to the highest standard as well. Madalyn jumped right into confirmation, agility, and other various dog sports, learning quickly there is no limit to what the Aussie can do! Both Madalyn and Ryan love the breed and put everything they have into breeding and raising Australian Shepherds with exceptional temperaments and show quality looks. Excellence by design inside and out. Purposefully bred for beauty, balance, and brilliance!

So why the name Bitterroot Aussies? Madalyn and Ryan both grew up in San Diego and met at school there. Madalyn has family in Montana and grew up going every year. From the first trip Ryan ever joined her on, he fell in love with the state as well. They ended up getting married in the Bitterroot Valley and lived there for a few years, which is where they were when they got their first two Aussies together. Work and family brought them back to San Diego, but a part of their heart will always be in Montana and they still spend a significant amount of time there every year!
